Google Ads in Germany: what changes when you advertise to German customers
Google Ads in Germany: tracking under German consent rules, search terms, targeting, landing pages. Findings in English, 48 hours on working days.

Same account, same budget, different results
Many companies expand into Germany by copying what works at home: same campaign structure, translated keywords, translated landing page, same bidding strategy. Then the German campaigns underperform, and the conclusion is often that the German market is "hard".
Sometimes it is. More often, something in the setup doesn't fit the German context. The tracking loses conversions because of how consent works here. The keywords are translations, not the words people actually type. The landing page reads like a translation, lacks an Impressum link, or loads slowly on German mobile networks. The location setting shows ads to people interested in Germany rather than people in it.
Werbechirurg is a second opinion with a log. We look at what your German campaigns are really doing, write it down, and fix it if you want, with every change logged.
What we check
Conversion tracking under German consent. This is where we start, because everything else depends on it (background: Consent, TDDDG and Impressum). Which tags load before and after the cookie banner? Are Consent Mode v2 signals set correctly, in basic or advanced mode? Are enhanced conversions set up? Do the conversions in Google Ads match the orders or leads you actually received?
Search terms. German is full of compound words and regional variants. A translated keyword list misses many real searches and pays for some irrelevant ones. We look at which searches your ads actually appear for and which negative keywords are missing.
Location and language settings. "Presence or interest" versus "presence". Language targeting set to English only, when your buyers use German browsers. Ads shown in Austria and Switzerland when you only deliver to Germany, or the other way round.
Bidding strategy. Target CPA or target ROAS on a new German account without enough conversion data. Performance Max campaigns spending heavily on your own brand searches.
Landing pages. Native-sounding German, clear pricing in euros, local trust signals (Impressum, German contact options, payment methods Germans use), mobile load times, forms that work. For the organic side, see SEO for the German market.
Account ownership. If an agency set up your account, check who owns it. Moving later is easier when you know now.
How we work
1. Diagnosis in 48 hours on working days
From public sources: your live ads in Google's Ads Transparency Center, landing pages, tags and consent behaviour, load times. No logins. Free (terms).
2. Written findings
In English, with sources and a clear order of priority. Yours to keep, also useful for your current agency.
3. Repair with a change log
If you hire us, every change is logged: before, after, reason, backup, rollback (how we work). Budget changes only with your approval. We work in your account, so the history stays with you.
Prices are published on our homepage in the “Preise” section of our homepage.
When an English campaign makes sense
Not every German campaign has to be in German. If you sell to the international community in Berlin, to English-speaking developers or to multinational procurement teams, a separate English campaign can work well. The point is to make that a deliberate choice, with its own keywords, ads, landing pages and measurement, rather than an accident of language settings. In the findings, we say which audience each of your campaigns actually reaches.
What we don't promise
No guaranteed cost per click, cost per lead or ad position. No promise that Germany will perform like your home market. Sometimes the right answer is a smaller, more focused campaign.
No legal advice on consent or advertising rules. We show what happens technically and flag what a German lawyer should check.

Frequently asked questions
Why do my campaigns convert worse in Germany than elsewhere?
Often they don't really convert worse, they measure worse. If your consent setup blocks conversion tags for visitors who decline, Google Ads sees fewer conversions and bids accordingly. Other common causes are untranslated or poorly localised landing pages and search terms that don't match how Germans search.
Do I need German-language ads?
If your customers search in German, yes. Many Germans speak English, but they search for local services and most products in German. English ads can make sense for specific audiences, such as expats or international B2B buyers.
What is Consent Mode v2 and do I need it?
It is how Google tags learn whether a visitor consented. Google requires these signals for users in the European Economic Area if you want to use data for personalised advertising and remarketing. Without them, your campaigns lose data.
Do you need access to my account?
Not for the diagnosis, which uses public sources. For a full account review we ask for read-only access, and only with your agreement.
What does it cost?
The diagnosis is free: you receive the full written report within 48 hours on working days and can then book a free first call. Our prices for repairs and ongoing management are published in the “Preise” section of our homepage. Ad spend is paid directly to Google.
